So you’ve probably noticed this by now, but my name is Mark. Currently I am a junior at the great school of James Madison University. I am a Media Arts & Design major and a Computer Science Minor. My concentration within Media Arts & design is Converged Media. This boils down to a little bit of journalism, a little bit of media law, a little more of video/film production, and a whole lot of web design and interactive media. If you like, you can take a look at some of the work I’ve done in this field of work.

Another huge part of my college career is being a part of the largest marching band in the country, the JMU Marching Royal Dukes. I have the privilege of serving among some of the greatest people I know (roughly 450 of them) as a part of the band. I’ve also been able to server for the past two years as a Drill Instructor in the band (for the trombone section!). One of the coolest experiences I’ve had with the MRDs was November 2013 when we marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. That is truly an experience I will never forget (despite the 3:00am rehearsal in Herald Square). One of the coolest things I get to do with the MRDs every year is producing a promotional video. So far I’ve worked on two videos, the most recent one we did pre-production to final cut in the span of three days (it was also for a class, so it was a much stricter deadline).

I’ve worked for a lot of people as a contract employee and I’ve loved every minute of every project. It has allowed me to become exposed to several difference disciplines and different ways of doing things in a way that I have learned so much from. Most of these projects have been web design, development, or creating web applications including digital signage web applications.

On an average day, you will probably find me outside hiking a mountain somewhere. My dream job is to be a professional white-water kayaker, but until that day comes I’m still taking classes, making videos, writing code, marching trombone, and camping. I have been an extra in a couple movies, one of which topped box offices in 2012… in Brazil… I’ve never seen either one, although I want to eventually, maybe once I learn Portuguese.
